I keep wanting to wait until I have some BIG NEWS to write new blogs, but some weeks are just slower than others. And now, it’s officially summer, and everything moves a little slowly anyhow this time of year. So why wait? I also hope to re-open the chattier, actually “bloggier” section of my blog soon rather than simply posting news updates.
But on the news front, “Into the Quiet” keeps chugging along, with Portland, Maine’s WMPG as the newest station to add it (thanks!). That’s two Maine stations now…I think I need to visit! And while summer laziness is tempting, I feel like I’m moving at full-speed, putting together tours for this fall throughout the Midwest, Northeast, Texas, Northwest, and right here in Southern CA. The one stop that I have cemented is Grand Rapids, Michigan, where I lived for a while and always loved/love to play. I’ll be there in October for sure, and more details on where and when exactly will be coming your way soon!

As promised, here’s a little photo-retrospective from the Grand Rapids show we played – the Progressive Women’s Alliance Fundraiser on April 16.
All photos by the clearly very talented David McGowan!
Thanks again to the event organizer Kristin Salerno for having us there, doing such a fab job promoting the event…and sending us these pics. Speaking of Kristin, here she is:

You know that kind of tired you are when you feel wide awake but in a daze, like your brain has ceased to function properly but your body’s not listening to it? Maybe it’s just me…
Anyway, I had lots of enthusiasm about blogging, but now that I’m actually doing it I find I have no idea what to say. Performing does kind of take it out of you. But I can say that tonight was the Progressive Women’s Alliance fundraiser. It was held at one of my favorite Grand Rapids restaurants, so the tapas was good, the wine was flowing, and the music was great. Claudia Schmidt followed by Rachael Davis followed by Lux Land – all were incredible in their own right (and between them kicked ass on many different instruments. YEAH to women who can really PLAY their guitars! I’m still working on it. I’ll rip a solo one of these days). It was quite humbling to be a part of it, and inspiring to be sharing the stage with women who are really doing what I want to do – that is, making a living making music, their own music, their way. So tomorrow I’ll be on my fave station, WYCE, here in Grand Rapids, playing a couple songs and chatting up with PWA event tomorrow night with Kristin Salerno, the event hostess with the mostest…putting it mildly. This girl has been working like crazy on the fundraiser and I know it’s going to be a fabulous success. But we’re still going to get on the radio and try to get even more of you to come… :) It’s 88.1 FM if you want to tune in at noon eastern time, or just go to www.wyce.org. Happy New Year, everyone! I’m back from a fantastic trip to Michigan that included an interview at WYCE – one of my very favorite stations – and a standing-room only show! Thanks to Grand Rapids for showing us such a warm welcome back. We’ve got some exciting things going on – first off, I’ve got 2 video entries in the FameCast contest. Visit my Famecast profile to vote for me if you have a chance! I’ll also be filming a bona fide music video in February, so stay tuned for that!

Mike and I are back in Grand Rapids, MI for a visit, and we decided to play a show at Schuler Books during our trip. Schuler is a fantastic place – a big bookstore and cafe like a chain bookstore, but it’s locally owned. And they actually have an entire ’studio’ at the back with a stage, PA, etc that creates this really great listening-room experience- i.e., you’re not playing in between bookshelves or in the middle of cafe tables or something. :) So we were excited to play there, but having not been back to the Midwest in a couple years, really, we weren’t sure what to expect.
Happily, I was asked last-minute to come in to do an in-studio appearance on WYCE- GR’s community radio station and one of my very favorites- and the GR Press wrote a little blurb about the show in the calendar, so that was all pretty exciting. And then, perhaps because of the coverage, or for whatever reason, the show was absolutely packed! People couldn’t even find seats at one point…and everyone was very attentive.
All in all, it was more than I could have asked for – I really sincerely thank everyone who came out, and I hope that those show did enjoyed it as much as we did! Here’s hoping for many more like that one… :)
