  • what i’ve been up to

     /  14 Mar 2009  /  News

I’ve been a very quiet blogger as of late (shame on me, I know), but I have not quiet musically, thank goodness. Here are just a couple things I’ve been up to:

Mike and I continue to work with Tim Young, uber-guitarist (not to mention uber-writer and producer) to demo songs for an upcoming album that we hope to record late Spring/early Summer. Without revealing too much, I can certainly say that I’m really excited about the direction that the album is taking! I’ve got a new show coming up at a great new venue, Cafe Muse, on April 10. I hope to unveil a few of these new songs then. The venue is so laid-back, and shows are always FREE – which should in itself be music to everyone’s recession-worn ears. I’ve been talking to the amazing Gaby Moreno about performing, and just to bring the lovely/talented lady quotient to crazy heights, Haviland Stillwell will likely also make an appearance…

…which brings me to the final new development in my musical life. I’ve written a song for Haviland that she’ll be performing (probably with me providing some guitar and/or backup vocals) on April 23 at the Upright Cabaret. It’s been a really great challenge to bring her experiences to life and write a song that she can really make her own. I can’t wait to hear Ms. Stillwell herself perform it! Her concert is shaping up to be an amazingly fun, eclectic evening, and I can’t wait for it, myself. Stay tuned…

  • CD RELEASE SHOW JUNE 6!

     /  03 Jun 2007  /  News

It’s this Wednesday 6/6 at The Derby in Los Feliz, and you should come (if you live here). Added to Mike’s usual beautiful bass lines, we’ve got Aaron Sterling on drums – killer. Really amazing. Tim Young’s guitar stylings give my songs the coolest quality, I swear, almost psychedelic! My friend and breathtakingly aweseome cellist Alisa Horn should be joining us for some songs, too. They all rule and I feel very lucky. And that’s really like 4 reasons to come right there, actually. :)

The other folks playing include Alexandra Georgiadis (great voice. We were in Evita together in college – funny eh? Oh the bonds of musical theater), Gaby Moreno, who’s a John Lennon songwriting contest winner, The Youngs, who to me are like the epitome of cool, and The Procession, who have a quirky power-pop sound and have just toured the UK. So there’s 4 more. We’re in the VIP Lounge of The Derby, which is quite cool; it’s very open a big room but still feels intimate, and there’s a bar back there and food served by Louise’s.

In other words, it’s a party, and you should come with all your friends. Just write me to get a discounted cover. OOOh I can’t wait!

  • New album! new look! woo hoo!

     /  26 Apr 2007  /  News

Yay! I’ve got a whole new look for my MySpace page and for my website. Check it out. And while you’re at it, check out THE NEW ALBUM! I’m very excited to (partially) unveil Already Gone. You can hear the tracks “Comfort” and “Careful” on MySpace, and if you like what you hear, pre-order it and get free shipping from now ’til June 6.

Speaking of June 6…we’ll be having our CD release party that night, at The Derby VIP Lounge. We’ll be playing with a full band, and hope to have some special guests (cello anyone? I hope I hope). It will be a rocking show featuring some of LA’s finest – Alexandra Georgiadis, Gaby Moreno, The Youngs, and The Procession. I’ve hand-picked the artists and will be hosting the evening, and it’s going to be such a blast. Save the date!

There’s lots more going on – we have a show at Tangier on May 9, which is always fun, and as part of Acoustic Cordiale on May 23 – I checked out Cafe Cordiale last night and it is a DELIGHT (does anyone get that reference? Will Ferrell doing James Lipton? Anyway…). Should you happen to be up late now like me, now, oh, say, launching your new album or something, turn to Conan O’Brien and check out my drummer-friend Steven Nistor on Conan O’Brien tonight. Brandi Carlile may have a set of twins, but she’ll never have the half-Romanian band. Nonetheless, I’m pumped to see it…do we have good taste in drummers or what?

I’m losing my MIND…can you tell Mike and I have been working on this for way too long? Him especially; all the web magic is his. We do hope you like it, and if you do, pass it on!
