I’m happy to report that “Into the Quiet” is getting some airplay from stations all over the country – and I’m particularly pleased that a number of songs from the album have been played by WYCE, the community station of my sometime-hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan (and where Mike’s family lives). They’ve been good enough to even have me in the station before to perform, and hopefully I’ll be able to do that again soon!
I also am very happy that Houston’s KPFT is playing songs from the album – they gave some love to my last album, too. I think it’s about time I start planning the Texas tour! Some of the other stations include: KSCR, WSIN, WMFO, KHSU, KSAU, and WMHB….so if any of those are your local stations, call to request your favorite song!
We’ve been sending out more CDs to more stations, and hopefully we’ll be able to post a bigger list soon. While college and community radio are the best formats for my music, everywhere I’ve lived, they tend to be my favorite stations anyway, and I’m happy to support them however I can. I love that, if my music gets played, it’s for no other reason than because someone at the station loves it…which is, it seems to me, the way radio should be!
It’s always nice to put an album out into the world and then actually hear back from some of it! Yesterday, we got a little write-up on Bruce Greenberg’s blog, The Promise Live. And today, UK blog Mojophenia gave the album a full review. Go read it and check out the song they picked to accompany the review, “Crawl.” Enjoy!
Also many thanks to those of you who have not only purchased the album on iTunes but also given me reviews – keep ‘em coming!

I’m pleased to report that we had a very successful launch for “Into the Quiet” last night at Molly Malone’s! Everyone there, from Nico the doorman to Richard the soundman and everyone in between could not have been nicer. We had family, old friends and new fans in the crowd and they were attentive and excited – meanwhile, Tim, Aaron, and Mike totally rocked it. And the electric guitar debut came off without a hitch (not pictured here, but I swear, I really played it). I can’t wait to play more solos!
I’m so grateful to my band and to everyone who came out to support us last night. Because of you, I am a happy, lucky girl. Thanks for being a part of the journey – onward and upward!
So, we’re going to be partying at Molly Malone’s tonight at 9:30. I’m really excited to share this music with people, many of whom will be hearing the songs for the first time. And I’ll also be whipping out my electric guitar! That’s right…it’s gonna be like Newport…prepare to be rocked! Hee hee. My band – Timothy Young, Aaron Sterling, and Mike Chiaburu – is incredible, and if you have half as much fun listening to them as I do playing with them, well, it’s going to be a good night. Hope to see you there!
Can you believe it? I’m not sure I can! But it’s true, on March 30, when you click on that little iTunes icon, you should be able to find my new album, “Into the Quiet” there for purchase! And if you’re old-fashioned, you can buy the album from CDBaby instead.
In the meantime, I hope you’re been enjoying the little preview of the album that I’ve been giving you each week. Check out my music page for the latest!
Finally – LA people – CD release SHOW is Wednesday, March 31, 9:30 pm at Molly Malone’s. I rehearsed last night Mike Chiaburu, Timothy Young and Aaron Sterling, and it was SO much fun. I even pulled out the electric guitar…I can’t wait for you to join the party. I promise I’ll announce some tour dates soon for the rest of you, and in the meantime, you can always listen to the album…yay!
It’s about time I let you all have a peek at…or, I guess, a sneaky listen to…the new album. So every week I’ll be posting a video where I talk about one of my songs, then play it! Last week’s was “Second Fiddle,” which I’m posting below now:
The video was also featured on Spintown’s “YouTube Treasure Hunt” as a pick for this week. So be sure to check out that blog for more YouTube fun! If you like what you see/hear on my page, be sure to comment, subscribe, and generally spread the love throughout the ‘interweb.’ Have a great rest of your weekend!
And by good lookin’, I mean…my new website! We’re unveiling the new look to match the new album. We are still making some tweaks, though. Consider this the ’soft release’ or think about it like we’re still in ‘beta.’ Do I sound like I know what I’m talking about? :) Anyway, feedback welcome – encouraged, even – as we work out the kinks. Thanks to Erin Hauber for the design and Mike Chiaburu for the web wizardry.
The CD is HERE! It will be available for sale in March, and in the meantime, Los Angeles, save the date of March 31 for the release show! We’ll be rocking it at Molly Malone’s. Here- I explain it all in my weekly Q & A! Generally I post these on Tuesdays, so get me your questions about the album or anything else you’ve been wondering about by Monday, and I just might pick yours! You can post on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter… Get pumped, everyone!
Get ready! The album is about to be duplicated/printed up by GrooveHouse (the best. The absolute best. Yesterday I met founders Bryan and Bridget Kelley, and they are the sweetest). I literally dropped the master off yesterday and I’m getting artwork proofs tomorrow. Seriously. Did I mention that GrooveHouse is the best?
I am also very happy to report that I am now on the client roster of Marketing/Publicity/Design firm LaFamos. They are an incredible group of people, too. They really know how to work with artists – and they make it affordable with grants – one of which I am happy to have received!
The album will be released in late February. I’ll be posting the date and all the necessary info for my CD release show as soon as I get all the details. I basically will not be able to sit still until this thing gets out there – and probably not after, either. Can’t wait!
A lot of great stuff happened last week! On Wednesday I awoke to a great review of our Hotel Cafe show from Bruce Greenberg of The Promise (a Live365 radio station and blog). Bruce is a great guy, and I met him at a Sam Phillips show some time after he’d reviewed my last album. He is a big fan of Sam (as am I!) and is an all around “patron of the rock ‘n roll arts,” in his words. Kind words from a man with such great musical taste mean a lot!
On Friday, I picked up the master from Gavin and Reuben at Lurssen Mastering. Hurrah! Those who donated to the album will likely get their own little hands on the album before the end of the year, and we’re looking at a late January/early February release to the public. To get some images for the CD artwork, I played model at a photo shoot with Kessia Embry all day Saturday. We had a fun girly day with makeup and hair artist Sasha Urbelis and my friend Johanna Parker (actress and lovely lady who helped out, in some cases literally giving me the clothes off of her back). I also borrowed some faaabulous dresses from Miss Haviland Stilwell for the shoot. I’m excited to see how it all turns out!
Ok boys, you can start reading again. :) After that long day, Mike and I went to the CD release party for Population Game, a band composed of perhaps the hardest working/nicest/most talented boys in Hollywood! And Sunday night, we got to see Timothy Young again! He’s been out on tour with Wayne Horvitz and Sweeter Than The Day. It was a thrill to see him play at the gorgeous Orpehum Theater with Laura Veirs (who is GREAT! very inspiring), and so great to catch up a bit after the show. We missed him!
Whew. Who knows what this week will bring? It’s just gettin’ started!
