About piece of your heart

Piece of Your Heart grew out of Kristy’s experiments playing live with a looper pedal – layering vocal harmonies, percussion, guitar and piano licks. Engineer Jesse String came in with longtime partner and bassist Mike Chiaburu to produce the EP, elaborating on Kristy’s original arrangements to create a sound that combines organic and electronic elements, nodding to retro pop while remaining fresh. Relentlessly creative musicians Jorge Balbi (drums) and Timothy Young (guitar) helped give each song its own special character and atmosphere. Jesse recorded the album in Los Angeles at Kingsize Soundlabs, Hobby Shop Studios, and his own E. String Studios. He also expertly mixed it before turning it over to Reuben Cohen at Lurssen Mastering for the finishing sonic touches. Fans will be able to preview tracks on SoundCloud before the EP’s digital release on Nov 4.

About into the quiet

Into the Quiet was in large part funded by Kristy’s dedicated fan base. Her tiered donation system gave back to the fans by gifting albums, downloads and concerts; a $100 donation gave fans an advance copy of the album, a mention in the liner notes, and an early download of her first single, “Second Fiddle”, while a $1000 donation offered fans a living room concert from Kristy. Every fan who donated on any level had the chance to vote for the title of her new album.

A group of extremely talented musicians joined Kristy for Into the Quiet, perhaps making it her most exciting recording yet. Aaron Sterling (Kelly Clarkson, Sara Bareilles) joins on drums, Mike Chiaburu (Rossif Sutherland) on the bass and Peter Adams (Tracy Bonham, Butterfly Boucher) on keyboards. Versatile guitarist Timothy Young (Jessie Baylin, Rufus Wainwright) also produced the album. Mike and Kristy were thrilled to work again with engineer Ryan Freeland (Aimee Mann, Ingrid Michaelson), who recorded and mixed the album, and Grammy award-winning engineer Gavin Lurssen (Allison Krauss & Robert Plant), who mastered it. The album was pre-released in Los Angeles in the spring and officially released in the summer of 2010.

About Already Gone

Already Gone was produced by Kristy and her longtime partner/bassist Mike Chiaburu. The bulk of the album was recorded at Stampede Origin Studios in Los Angeles by engineer Ryan Freeland (Aimee Mann, Joe Henry), August 21-25, 2006. During the sessions, Mike and Kristy were joined by the incomparable Jay Bellerose on drums. All of the tracks were recorded live over those few days, giving the album the organic feel of a live performance, and keyboardist Patrick Warren added some of his own special magic from his home studio a few months later. Both Jay and Patrick have recorded with the likes of Aimee Mann, Fiona Apple, and Ani DiFranco, among many others. Ryan Freeland also mixed the album, then turned it over to Grammy-winning mastering engineer Gavin Lurssen (“O Brother Where Art Thou?,” Robert Plant & Allison Krauss’ “Raising Sand”) who truly optimized its sound.
