  • It’s true. The pinnacle of my political career was probably winning the race for 9th grade class president. And I haven’t often asked anyone to vote for me for anything since, but sometimes it becomes necessary.

Like now! This weekend, out of the blue, I received an email from The Deli Magazine – LA saying that they liked my music and had nominated me for their regular “Artist of the Month” contest. Fans can vote up ’til July 17, so if you are so inclined, take a millisecond and vote for me, please!

It’s exciting that this also comes at a time when I’m Women of Substance Radio’s featured artist. As I’ve mentioned before, I LOVE this station and everything they do for female artists, established, brand-new, and up-and-coming alike. We’re all in this together, ladies! Please listen/visit them to find out how to win a free download of one of my songs!

  • That’s right, FRIDAY! Specifically, this Friday, it’s “T.G.I. Alina & Friends Friday,” a new but already beloved songwriter night at Pi on Sunset. I’ll be playing songs in an “in-the round” format, along with hostess extraordinaire Alina Smith, Kim DiVine, and Ariana Hall, and I really can’t wait. Funnily enough I’ve just started working with Kim on some co-writes, and I actually recently co-wrote a song with Morgan Karr, who’s been working with Alina. The songwriter world keeps getting bigger and smaller at the same time, it would seem! Anyway, the show is free and you can find more details on my shows page – but I really recommend you check it out. These are some talented writer/performers, and you can’t beat free Friday entertainment to kick off your weekend. See you soon, I hope!

  • women of substance – live!

     /  31 May 2011  /  News

I’m so honored to have been selected for Women of Substance Radio’s annual showcase, coming up Sunday, June 12 at the famed Coffee Gallery in Altadena – actually, the place where I played my very first Los Angeles open mic night, back in ‘04! (Wow. I JUST remembered that, while writing.) Manda Mosher headlines, and I’ll join Gabrielle Wortman, Julia Lucafo and Denise Rosier to round out the evening. Call 626.798.6236 for reservations! I think it’s going to be a packed house!

  • tomorrow, tomorrow…

     /  27 Apr 2011  /  News

Don’t miss my last appearance at Cafe Muse tomorrow night! Well, at least, as part of my residency. Mike will be joining me for some special “East Paris” numbers, and Timothy Young joins on guitar to close out the evening. It should be a folk-rockin’ good time, as usual. See you there!

  • Hey there! Just a very quick post for those who may have missed the udpates on Facebook – I will NOT be doing my usual Cafe Muse show on 3/31. We’ll be back on 4/28 with some as-yet-unannounced special guests to finish up the residency.

  • today’s the day

     /  16 Mar 2011  /  News

As East Paris, Mike and I wrote a song called “Today’s the Day,” inspired by a blog written by our friend David Garcia, and we’ve put it up on Bandcamp for you!Check it out, download if you like, let us know what you think!

As some of you know by now, because you’re hopefully reading his blog, my dear friend David has gone through an incredible weight loss journey this last year, and he now finds himself 160+ lbs down the scale. When I think of people who have truly been there for me over the years (10+, now!) David always comes to mind. He’s been with me at the worst of the worst open mic nights and the most triumphant shows, plus so many other non-musical highs and lows. And now – we jog and work out together, too! It’s been incredible to see David transform himself and inspire so many other people in the process – including me!

If you want to learn more about David, please do check out his blog, and tune in to Ellen today – they’ll be re-airing a special episode about him. I hope today is a great day for you to make any changes that you’ve been wanting to make – David is living proof that you can always turn your life around.

  • the debut of East Paris!

     /  28 Feb 2011  /  News

If you weren’t able to make it to Cafe Muse last week, or you live somewhere far, far away from sunny LA, you can still be a part of the debut of our side project, “East Paris.” Our new song “Balloon”:

East Paris performs “Balloon” live at Cafe Muse 2/24 from Kristy Hanson on Vimeo.

Each day this week I’ll be posting new video snippets and lyrics from the six songs that Mike and I wrote together for February’s RPM Challenge on our tumblr page. We’re going to actually keep at it into March, recording these songs properly. I look forward to sharing the completed project with you as it comes together!

     /  19 Feb 2011  /  News

If you’re looking for a late-night rock ‘n roll play, stop by the Atwater Village Theater tonight at 10:30 pm. I’m opening up “Crack Whore Galore,” which has been getting great reviews all over town and is hilarious. I may be joining them for a future show of their run, which goes ’til March 12, but I recommend you check it out either way! Details here.

  • I set up a blog on the RPM Challenge site to document the progress of our new side project, “East Paris” (newly christened so, as of today.) Check it out here. In the coming days, we’ll be sharing the sketches of the songs we’re working on, as well as fun pictures and stories. Thank you in advance for cheering us on. We will need the support!

  • Mike and I have decided that we will take part in this year’s RPM Challenge and attempt to write, record, and release an album digitally all the course of that oh-so-short month, February. Which means we need to get crackin’! It also, in my opinion, takes a village to create an album in a month, so we’ll be working with friends to gather additional inspiration from unexpected sources – blogs, plays, poems, drawings. Art begets art! We hope, anyway. :) Please stay tuned – we’ll be creating a special blog just for the project, and I’ll be keeping everyone up to date here, too.
